Australian Hiking Trails by Difficulty

After 12 years of exploring Australia on foot, I decided to put together honest assessments of trails I have actually completed. No sponsored content, no affiliate links - just real experiences from someone who has blistered feet and triumphant summit photos to prove it.

Choose Your Challenge

Three trails I have walked multiple times, each offering a completely different experience. Pick based on your fitness level and what you want to get out of it.

Blue Mountains Grand Canyon

Where I took my first proper bushwalk 12 years ago. Still my go-to recommendation for anyone starting out. The stairs will test you, but the canyon rewards every step.

The outback humbled me on my first attempt. Came back better prepared and discovered why this trail has a cult following. Desert hiking is a completely different beast.

Why I Started Rating Trails

I got into hiking after a mate dragged me to the Blue Mountains in 2013. What was supposed to be a "easy morning walk" turned into a 6-hour adventure that left me exhausted but completely hooked.

The problem? Finding accurate difficulty information was nearly impossible. Official ratings seemed wildly inconsistent - what Parks Victoria calls "moderate" would be "hard" anywhere else. So I started documenting my own experiences.
